Last week, DJI launched an entirely new type of drone, the DJI Avata 360. This drone is not only the successor to the DJI Avata 2 but also DJI's first 360° drone. With the 360° camera, the creative possibilities for drone pilots are endless.

In this blog, we'll tell you all about the specifications and features of the DJI Avata 360.

Design: cinewhoop for safe flights

We know the design of the DJI Avata 360 from the DJI Avata 2. The drone is designed with a cinewhoop this protects the propellers when the drone flies close to objects. For the design of the DJI Avata 360, DJI chose a dark gray frame with a larger camera module.

The DJI Avata 360 is slightly larger than its predecessor and also slightly heavier. The DJI Avata 360 weighs 400 grams. Thanks to its light weight, the drone is easy to carry around. The DJI Avata 360 has a C1 label and may therefore be flown in subcategory A1 by pilots with an EU Drone License A1/A3.

Camera system: dual camera module

The biggest innovation is the camera module of the DJI Avata 360. This is where this drone stands out from all previous models. The DJI Avata 360 features a dual camera module: one for FPV images and a combination of both for 360-degree images.

Not sure which license you need?

Two 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors

The drone is equipped with two 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors of 64 megapixels each. Together, they produce a fully spherical 360° image. This is a substantial step up from the single 1/1.3-inch sensor in the Avata 2. The larger sensor size provides better low-light performance, more dynamic range and sharper detail.

8K/60fps 360° HDR video

The maximum video resolution is 8K/60fps in full 360° with HDR and 10-bit color depth. For panoramic photos, the system delivers 38 megapixels. In traditional FPV mode, the drone shoots 4K/120fps ideal for smooth slow-motion FPV footage.

Tiltable gimbal: the best of both worlds

One of the most innovative features is the single-axis mechanical gimbal that allows the entire camera module to tilt from -60° to +60°. This means that in FPV mode you can adjust the camera angle independently of the flight position.

With the push of a button, you can switch between two camera modes:

  • FPV mode: one lens facing forward, 155° FOV, 4K/120fps. Classic FPV feel.
  • 360° mode: both lenses active, full spherical view, 8K/60fps. Choose your camera angle afterwards in the edit.

Camera specifications

A summary of the most important specifications can be found in the table below.

Let's take a deeper look at what the drone has to offer.

Obstacle sensors: LiDAR on board

The Avata 360 makes a leap in terms of safety. Whereas the Avata 2 only had downward sensors for landing, the Avata 360 has a comprehensive sensor package:

  • Front sensors: combination of visual cameras and LiDAR for accurate distance measurement
  • Side sensors: for omnidirectional detection during rapid side maneuvers
  • Back sensors: for precise landing

The combination of visual detection with LiDAR makes the Avata 360 safer, especially during fast flights through forests, buildings or other tight spaces. The drone can automatically brake and swerve via the new Smart Braking feature.

Smart flight functions

In addition to the standard flight modes (Normal, Sport and Manual), the Avata 360 introduces a number of smart features that make flying easier and safer:

Smart Braking: the drone automatically brakes when the obstacle sensors detect an obstacle. Ideal for beginners.

Indoor Hover: stable hovering indoors without GPS, thanks to the downward sensors.

Follow Me: the drone automatically follows a subject.

Automated Paths: set a flight path that the drone automatically follows, so you can focus fully on the camera.

360° Preview in Goggles: view a live panoramic view through your DJI Goggles as you fly.

Interchangeable lenses

A feature that many drone pilots have long been asking for are interchangeable lenses. Upon purchase, you get a lens kit with two lenses and the necessary tools. A spare lens costs €25. This is an improvement over previous DJI drones, where a damaged lens meant an expensive and time-consuming repair at DJI. Now you change the lens yourself in minutes. Ideal for pilots who do a lot of flying in high-risk environments.

Compatibility: FPV glasses and controllers

The Avata 360 works with the existing DJI accessories:

  • DJI Goggles 3: FPV goggles with Micro-OLED screens
  • DJI Goggles N3: smaller and lighter model than the Goggles 3
  • DJI RC Motion 3: motion controller for intuitive flying via hand movements
  • DJI RC 2: traditional stick controller for experienced pilots

Do I need a drone license?

The DJI Avata 360 has a weight of approximately 400 grams (C1 label), putting it in subcategory A1. Obtaining an EU Drone License is therefore mandatory if you want to fly this drone in the EU.

For this drone, the basic certificate A1/A3 is sufficient. The training for the basic certificate A1/A3 is completely online. After the training you will take an exam, the exam is also taken online. You can obtain the Basic Certificate in as little as one day. This will allow you to fly your FPV drone quickly and easily.

Is the Avata 360 the best FPV drone on the market?

With the arrival of the DJI Avata 360, DJI is taking a new step in the world of drones. But how does this drone perform compared to the competition. We compared the specifications of several drones in our blog: The best FPV drone of 2026.
