DJI Avata | What is already known

This blog is brought to you by Drone Class, your drone trainer for flying in the open and specific category.

Some time ago, DJI launched its first ready-to-fly first person view drone: DJI FPV. This drone made FPV flying more accessible through safety options, different flight modes, digital control and digital FPV glasses. DJI is expected to launch an improved version of the DJI FPV in mid-August. This new aircraft will be named DJI Avata.

Now that the release date is getting closer, more and more is known about the DJI Avata. We tell you what we know so far about the DJI Avata and when the DJI Avata will be released.

The DJI Avata can be connected to two FPV goggles: the DJI Goggles 2 and the DJI FPV Goggles v2. The DJI Goggles 2 can stream in up to 2.7K and 1080p in 120 FPS. The DJI FPV Goggles 2 can stream in up to 100 FPS

Dimensions, weight and speed of the DJI Avata

The DJI Avata, like the DJI FPV, comes with three flight modes: Manual, Sport and Normal. Novice drone pilots can fly the DJI Avata in Normal mode. Once pilots gain more confidence in controlling the drone, they can fly it in a progressively more difficult mode. The DJI Avata does not reach as high speeds as the DJI FPV. In Manual mode, the drone achieves a maximum speed of 27m/s, which is equivalent to 97 kilometres per hour. The DJI FPV can reach a maximum speed of 120 kilometres per hour. This is a difference of 23 kilometres per hour.

The DJI Avata is a compact and lightweight drone. The DJI Avata has a size of 180 x 180 x 80 mm and can be folded. With a battery life of 18 minutes and an internal memory of 20GB, the DJI Avata makes sure you never miss a shot.

Our first impression of the DJI Avata

With the DJI Avata, we think FPV flying becomes more accessible and easier. DJI seems to have combined quality with flying pleasure. We are impressed by the specifications of the camera and the expected recording quality that DJI promises. It is remarkable that the DJI Avata only comes with the motion controller. We have not yet seen a standard control controller that comes with the device. Anyway, we are looking forward to the launch.

The expected launch date of the DJI Avata is on August 23, 2022.
