Drone flying in Europe? Going through a drone course and obtaining the drone certificate is often mandatory. Since the introduction of European legislation, drone rules have been tightened. You are not allowed to fly everywhere with your drone and you need a drone certificate and operator number. The drone course teaches you all this, but what does it look like and which drone course should I take? We'll tell you in this blog.
Why take a drone course?
Many beginners think you can just take a drone out of the box and send it into the air. In practice, it's not that simple and certainly not legal.
Since January 2021, EASA drone regulations have been in effect across Europe. That divides drones into categories and prescribes for each category what powers a pilot needs.
For the most commonly used drones, the rules of the open category apply, with three main subcategories:
- A1 - For light and small drones
- A2 - For heavier drones closer to people and above buildings
- A3 - For heavier drones with distance restrictions to people and buildings
