Before taking the exam, we are required to verify your identity. You can request each certificate from the RDW after successful completion. The minimum age to be allowed to apply for the European drone license is 16 years in the Netherlands. Costs are 10 euros per certificate and you pay this amount to us after passing the exam.

Basic certificate (A1-A3)

Target audience

Any drone pilot who flies drones of 250 grams till 25 kilos in the open category. With the EU Drone License, you can fly in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway.


In order to obtain the certificate, you will spend about six to ten hours. The duration also depends on your prior knowledge and the learning pace.


The basic certificate A1-A3 costs 99 euros (incl. VAT). Of course, this includes the online exam and free resits.


The A1-A3 exam is online and you make it independently in Online Learning. Afterwards, you will fill in a form so that we can inform the RDW that you have passed.

Admission requirements

There are no requirements in terms of prior knowledge. You also do not need to follow practical training and an exam. Our training is accessible to beginners and does not contain any superfluous knowledge.


A certificate is valid for five years and can be requested from the RDW in the Netherlands. You can renew any certificate in five years.

Frequently asked questions

  • When do I need A2?

    To be allowed to fly in built-up areas with drones from 500 grams to 2 kilos in the open category. You first obtain the basic certificate A1-A3.

  • What does the exam look like?

    The Basic certificate A1-A3 exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions with a 60 minutes time limit. You take the exam online.

  • Is it possible to retake the exam?

    As soon as you start the training, the subscription period of 30 days starts. Within this subscription period, it is possible to retake the exam indefinitely for free. This applies to both certificates.

  • Are 30 days enough to learn?

    We hear from many customers that they managed to obtain both certificates in a few afternoons. If you don't procrastinate your training (too much), the 30-day access period is more than enough to pass.

  • Are you lenient in case of illness or force majeure, etc.?

    If it is not possible to obtain both certificates within 30 days, please explain it to us and we will be happy to help you as a satisfied customer.

  • How long does an application take?

    The Dutch authority needs two to three working days on average to process your application.
