New release: DJI Air 2S

This blog is brought to you by Drone Class, your drone trainer for flying in the open and specific category.

DJI launched a new drone, the DJI Air2S. This drone is an improved version of the DJI Mavic Air 2. DJI has mainly focused on improving the camera quality and making flying the drone easier. This has resulted in a powerful device that can make high-quality recordings by novice and experienced drone pilots.

Drone

The DJI Air 2S weighs 595 grams. This allows the drone to be flown in both subcategory A2 and subcategory A3. The maximum speed is around 70 km / h and the drone's battery lasts about half an hour. The drone has a compact and foldable design, as we are used to from the DJI Mavic 2. This makes the drone easy to take with you. The radio controller is the same controller as the DJI Mavic Air 2, but the range has been increased to 8 km, in ideal conditions.

Camera

The improved camera quality on the DJI Air 2S is a must. The drone has a 20MP 1-inch sensor. This improves the image quality and the sensor ensures a high ISO response. This results in less image noise in low light circumstances. Images taken at ISO 3200 are remarkably noiseless. The maximum video resolution is a lot higher compared to the DJI Mavic 2. This drone can record images in 5.4K to 30fps or 4K to 60fps. The maximum photo resolution is 20 megapixels. Photos can be saved in JPG or DNG RAW format.

Flight modes

The DJI Mavic series is known for its flight functions. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, everyone can fly the DJI Air 2S. The drone has two forward-facing obstacle sensors: two upward-angled obstacle sensors and two rear-facing sensors. This allows the drone to automatically avoid obstacles, even at high flight speeds. In addition, DJI comes with a new flight function, namely 'Master shots'. The drone itself calculates the best flight path to perform a certain camera movement. This is a handy way for novice pilots to have beautiful drone images taken automatically.

EU regulations

The DJI Air 2S weighs 595 grams. As a result, the drone may be flown in both subcategory A2 and subcategory A3. In subcategory A2, the drone is allowed to fly above buildings, with keeping a minimum distance of 50 meters from uninvolved persons. In subcategory A3 you are required to maintain a distance of 150 meters from buildings.

EU Drone License

Do you consider to purchase the DJI Mavic Air 2S? Unfortunately, this drone does not have a C-label. For the DJI Mavic Air 2S you need first the basic certificate A1-A3. The additional certificate A2 is mandatory for flying in residential areas.
