Preview: DJI Mini 5 Pro
DJI has launched an updated version of one of its most popular devices: the DJI Mini 5 Pro. In this blog, we discuss the specifications and features of this drone.
Weight and C0 label
The DJI Mini series is known for its light weight, foldable design and small size. The DJI Mini 5 Pro has also been designed with these features in mind. Weighing 249 grams, the drone is very light and easy to transport.
Obtaining the EU Drone License is not mandatory because this drone weighs less than 250 grams. However, we do recommend that you are aware of all drone legislation.
Even with small drones, it is not permitted to fly everywhere.
Improved camera quality
What makes the DJI Mini 5 Pro relevant for (novice) drone enthusiasts:
- 1-inch sensor with maximum video quality of 4K/120 fps
- Med-Tele Mode (48 mm)
- Vertical recording through gimbal rotation
The DJI Mini 5 Pro has been upgraded with a 1-inch camera sensor. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which was equipped with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor. A larger sensor allows more light to enter, capturing more detail.
Where other DJI models have a dual camera module, the DJI Mini 5 Pro has only a single camera. However, it is possible to shoot close-up images thanks to a 48 mm digital telephoto lens. The DJI Mini 5 Pro's gimbal can rotate 225 degrees. This allows for vertical shooting without loss of quality. Ideal for images for social media.
Improved obstacle detection with LIDAR
A first in the DJI Mini series. The DJI Mini 5 Pro is equipped with LIDAR technology and Nightscape omnidirectional obstacle detection. This means that the drone can detect and avoid obstacles even in low light conditions.
ActiveTrack
The DJI Mini 5 Pro is also equipped with ActiveTrack. This feature allows you to have the drone autonomously follow people or objects. Ideal when you want to move through the image yourself as the subject. The drone takes full control and ensures smooth images.
Longer flight time
The flight time of the battery has been significantly improved. Whereas the previous model had a maximum flight time of 34 minutes per battery, the DJI Mini 5 Pro can achieve a maximum flight time of 52 minutes. Of course, this is measured in ideal conditions and the actual battery life will be slightly lower.
Drones weighing less than 250 grams are best used in low wind conditions. This is not so much to do with the quality of the device, but more with the limited weight and less powerful motors that are possible within this limit.
