A1-A3 Certificate for DJI Mini 3 Pro?

This blog is brought to you by Drone Class, your drone trainer for flying in the open and specific category.

This month, DJI launched the latest version of the DJI Mini. We previously wrote a blog about all the new functions on the DJI Mini 3 Pro. This time we take a closer look at the rules for flying the DJI Mini 3 Pro.

EU Drone License?

The question often asked is, “Do I need a drone license to fly the DJI Mini 3 Pro?” Whether you need a drone certificate for this device depends on the weight of the drone. The DJI Mini 3 Pro was launched with two batteries, the Intelligent Flight Battery and the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.

The Intelligent Flight Battery Plus extends the flight time by 13 minutes. The table below shows the difference between the two batteries.

Battery

Flight time

Capacity

Weight

Intelligent Flight Battery

34 minutes

2453 mAh

80.5 grams

Intelligent Flight Battery Plus

47 minutes

3850 mAh

121 grams

The standard weight of the DJI Mini 3 Pro is 249 grams, including Intelligent Flight Battery, propellers and microSD card. If you want to fly the DJI Mini 3 Pro with the Intelligent Flight Plus batteries, the weight of the drone will increase by 40 grams. This means that the drone weighs around 290 grams. In that case, the Base certificate A1-A3 is mandatory to obtain.

If you want to fly the DJI Mini 3 Pro with the Intelligent Flight battery, you do not need a certificate. After all, the drone weighs less than 250 grams. A registered pilot number is still mandatory.
