Preview: DJI Mavic 4 Pro
With the long-awaited DJI Mavic 4 Pro, DJI builds on the success of the Mavic 3 series and brings impressive innovations for both hobbyists and professional drone pilots. With a brand-new triple camera, a rotating gimbal for vertical video and countless improvements in flight time and flight performance, the Mavic 4 Pro promises to be the best drone for video available today.
In this blog, you'll discover the most important new features, the benefits for recreational and professional users, and what you need to keep in mind – such as the mandatory EU Drone Licence.
Let yourself be transported into the world of DJI's latest drone and find out why the DJI Mavic 4 Pro is an interesting upgrade!
Triple Hasselblad camera for unrivalled images
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro immediately stands out with its triple camera module. The main camera is a Hasselblad (100 MP), flanked by two telephoto lenses. This provides unrivalled photo and video capabilities.
The most striking feature of the DJI Mavic 4 Pro is the bulbous, round camera module with three lenses. DJI has significantly upgraded the cameras compared to its predecessor. The main camera is a Hasselblad with a 4/3-inch CMOS sensor of no less than 100 megapixels, good for razor-sharp 12K photos and video resolutions up to 6K at 60 fps in HDR. This camera has a variable aperture of f/2.0 to f/11 and, thanks to improved electronics, delivers approximately 16 stops of dynamic range. That is a significant leap compared to the 12.8 stops of the Mavic 3.
In addition to the main camera, the Mavic 4 Pro has two telephoto lenses for distant shots. The middle telephoto lens (~70mm) contains a 1/1.3-inch sensor with 48 MP, ideal for mid-range close-ups in 4K at up to 60/120 fps. The periscopic telephoto lens (~168mm) is also impressive: a 50 MP 1/1.5-inch sensor that allows you to zoom optically up to 6x without any loss of quality. All three cameras support both standard colour profiles and advanced options (HLG HDR, D-Log and D-Log M log colours) for maximum flexibility in post-processing.
Whether you want to shoot cinematic wide-angle images or capture subjects from a distance in close-up, the Mavic 4 Pro's triple camera gives you an unrivalled creative toolbox as a pilot.
360° "Infinity’ Gimbal and vertical video mode
The drone is equipped with a revolutionary 360° gimbal called the Infinity Gimbal. This gimbal can rotate independently of the drone, offering completely new shooting possibilities.
In practice, this means that the camera can roll/rotate completely – you can use a dial on the controller to rotate the camera direction horizontally 360 degrees, regardless of the position of the drone. This opens up creative possibilities: smooth transition shots, rolling horizon effects or switching between landscape and portrait mode without tilting the drone.
For the first time in the Mavic series, the gimbal also supports "true’ vertical video. With a single press of a button, the camera rotates 90° and you can immediately film in portrait mode – without any loss of quality and using all three lenses. DJI has developed a QuickShot automatic mode for gimbal rotations: the drone autonomously performs cool camera movements while you only have to select the subject.
The gimbal can tilt far: it is possible to look up to 70°. This allows you to capture unique perspectives under objects – such as bridges or tree tops. In short: the Infinity Gimbal takes drone videos to the next level.
Longer flight time and greater range
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro Fly More Combo includes three intelligent batteries, a parallel charging hub and a shoulder bag. With multiple batteries, you can get up to 2 hours of flight time in a row – ideal for long recording sessions or professional jobs.
The flight time has been extended to a maximum of 51 minutes per battery. In practice, this is around 45 minutes. Thanks to the Fly More Combo, you can fly longer.
The range has also been improved: the Mavic 4 Pro introduces DJI's latest transmission system with a theoretical range of up to 30 km. In the EU, you remain within visual line of sight, but the extra range provides a more stable connection, even in areas with a lot of interference.
In addition, the aircraft can withstand wind speeds of up to 12 m/s and even has optional 4G connectivity, which is useful for inspections or search operations.
Smart features and safe flying experience
Like its predecessors, the Mavic 4 Pro is packed with intelligent flight features: MasterShots, QuickShots, Panoramas, Hyperlapse, Waypoints. With the push of a button, it flies and films autonomously.
FocusTrack includes ActiveTrack 5.0, Point of Interest and Spotlight. New is Cruise Control: maintain a constant speed without constant stick input.
The drone has omnidirectional obstacle detection with APAS 6.0 – smart 3D avoidance routes, even between obstacles. The Return-To-Home function is more reliable than ever.
Another addition is Advanced Pilot Training Mode – this slows down the response and sets up safe zones. Ideal for novice pilots. The DJI Fly app gives you comprehensive flight data, a simulator and crash playback.
The Mavic 4 Pro is accessible to beginners and offers control for professionals, including manual gimbal control and GPS/GLONASS precision.
